Cameron Marley Buffett is the son of late “Margaritaville” singer Jimmy Buffett and Jane Slagsvol. Born in 1994, he joined the family through adoption, according to American Songwriter. His sisters are Savannah Jane Buffett and Sarah Delaney Buffett, both named alongside him in a U.S. Senate resolution honoring their father.
One of Cameron’s most personal public statements came after Jimmy’s death in September 2023. In a tribute, he described their close relationship and said he hoped to carry forward his father’s positive outlook. It offered a direct glimpse of their bond in Cameron’s own words.
His Place in the Buffett Family
Cameron is one of Jimmy Buffett’s three children. The Congressional Record of October 4, 2023, identifies him by his full name, Cameron Marley Buffett, alongside Sarah Delaney and Savannah Jane. That official record confirms his family connection without relying on the many online biographies attached to his name.
American Songwriter’s account establishes his birth year and adoption but does not give a full birth date. A precise birthday or age should therefore not be treated as confirmed.
Cameron in “Beach House on the Moon”
Cameron’s name also appears in Jimmy’s music. The title track of Beach House on the Moon, released on May 18, 1999, begins with Cameron seeking logical answers while the narrator offers an imaginative story. Jimmy Buffett’s official website publishes the lyrics and album release date.
The song moves through an imagined world of voyages, stars and a lunar hideaway. Near its end, Cameron considers his father’s stories and promises a future rocket trip together. It is a playful father-and-son portrait within the song, rather than a literal account of family events.
His Tribute After Jimmy Buffett’s Death
Jimmy Buffett died on September 1, 2023. In its September 13 coverage, American Songwriter reported that Cameron had shared a tribute with a photograph of himself, his father and their dog on a beach at sunset.
“We had an amazing relationship and I miss him so much,” Cameron wrote in the tribute, as quoted by American Songwriter.
Cameron also said he wanted to follow his father’s example of finding something positive in life. His message gave a personal meaning to that outlook: it was a quality he remembered in his dad and wanted to practice himself.
The song offers Jimmy’s imaginative version of fatherhood. Cameron’s later tribute supplies his own perspective—a son remembering their relationship and choosing one specific part of his father’s example to carry forward.
