What Happened at the 2015 Premiere?
The connection began on January 25, 2015, when Shaun the Sheep Movie held its European premiere at Vue Leicester Square in London. The event replaced the customary red carpet with a green one, matching Shaun’s rural setting and favorite food.
Connolly attended as a member of the film’s voice cast. His wife, actress Bella Hamblin, and their daughter Erin accompanied him. Ed Sheeran attended as a celebrity guest, alongside figures including Eliza Doolittle, Rizzle Kicks, Andy Serkis and Shaun creator Nick Park. Contemporary coverage from ITV News and Getty Images confirms Sheeran’s presence at the London premiere.
The two men were therefore in the same cinema, but that is where the connection ends. In a post published the following day, Connolly explained that his family learned only afterward that Sheeran had been sitting a few rows away. Erin had previously seen the singer at Madison Square Garden and hoped to meet him, but the family missed the opportunity.
Connolly subsequently tried to attract Sheeran’s attention on Twitter on his daughter’s behalf. His first-person account of the premiere does not describe a conversation, photograph or personal introduction between them.
Was Ed Sheeran Involved in Shaun the Sheep Movie?
Ed Sheeran did not have an acting or voice role in Shaun the Sheep Movie. He was attending the premiere as a guest.
ITV’s coverage made a clear distinction between Sheeran and musicians connected to the soundtrack. It described Sheeran as being there to watch the film, while noting that Eliza Doolittle and Rizzle Kicks appeared on the soundtrack. Sheeran is also absent from the published film cast.
The movie was Aardman’s first feature-length adventure centered on Shaun. It follows the flock from Mossy Bottom Farm into the city after their attempt to secure a day off creates an escalating series of problems. The official Aardman film page identifies the production as a 2015 stop-motion feature released with StudioCanal.
