Gabriella Wesberry is best known publicly as the longtime partner and wife of Mick Hucknall, the singer and songwriter behind Simply Red. Contemporary reporting, however, shows that her public identity was not simply “celebrity wife”: she was described as a company director in 2007 and, by 2008, as the person managing Hucknall’s Sicilian wine business. The couple’s relationship dates to the 1990s, they reunited in 2003, welcomed their daughter in 2007 and married in Scotland in 2010. A 2025 interview with Hucknall still described him as married to Wesberry.
Who is Gabriella Wesberry?
Wesberry has maintained a substantially lower public profile than Hucknall, but several details about her professional life were recorded before and during the early years of their family life.
When the Irish Examiner reported the birth of the couple’s daughter in June 2007, it identified Wesberry as a company director. The same report said she spoke six languages.
A 2008 interview with Hucknall by Sally Browne, published in Australia’s Sunday Mail, was more specific. It said Wesberry managed his wine business. Hucknall owned an estate on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily and produced wine under the label Il Cantante, meaning “The Singer.”
Wesberry has also frequently been described as a former art dealer. A May 2010 report carried by Cotidianul from Mediafax, citing British coverage of the wedding, described her as a former art dealer. That part of her background is therefore supported by contemporary reporting, although detailed information about galleries, employers, clients or the dates of her work in the art trade is not established in the stronger sources available.
Calling her a current art dealer or assigning her a present-day job title would go beyond what those sources establish. The clearest documentation concerns her work as a company director and in Hucknall’s wine operation during the 2000s.
How Gabriella Wesberry and Mick Hucknall met
The relationship chronology is clearer than some online biographies suggest.
The Irish Examiner reported in 2007 that Hucknall and Wesberry began dating in 1995. They separated before Hucknall left on an 18-month tour and were subsequently reintroduced by a mutual friend in 2003. A 2008 interview likewise said they had rekindled their relationship in 2003.
That makes 2003 the best-supported reunion date in contemporary sources, rather than the 2005 date sometimes reproduced in later online profiles.
There is also useful additional context about their first connection. In an October 2025 interview with Italian newspaper Il Giorno, Hucknall was described as having met Wesberry in a bar in Milan, during a period when he spent considerable time in Italy. The article does not give a year for that first meeting, so it should not be used to replace the better-documented statement that they started dating in 1995.
In other words, the most defensible chronology is: they met in Milan, were dating by 1995, later separated, and reunited through a mutual friend in 2003.
Their daughter and the change in Hucknall’s life
Wesberry and Hucknall became parents in June 2007, when their daughter, Romy True Hucknall, was born in London. The Irish Examiner reproduced the announcement then posted on Simply Red’s website and reported that Hucknall intended to reduce touring so he could spend more time raising his daughter.
The significance of that decision became clearer in later interviews. Hucknall told the Evening Standard in 2015 that becoming a husband and father changed his priorities: rather than continuing a life built around constant touring, he wanted to be at home with his family. He said his family life also fed directly into the writing of Simply Red’s 2015 album Big Love.
That was not simply a retrospective public-relations story. In a 2012 interview with the Irish Independent, Hucknall described taking on the responsibilities of being a husband and father as an important positive change in his life.
More than a decade later, the theme remained consistent. In the October 2025 Il Giorno interview, Hucknall said he did not regret putting his work behind his family at times and described becoming a good father as the best experience of his life. That article explicitly identified Wesberry as his wife since 2010.
When did Gabriella Wesberry and Mick Hucknall marry?
Wesberry and Hucknall married in May 2010 at Forter Castle in Glenisla, Perthshire, Scotland.
Contemporary coverage described the wedding as a highly intimate ceremony with eight guests.
Forter Castle itself independently confirms the core location detail. An official wedding document from the castle notes that Mick Hucknall married in its chapel. The property dates to 1560 and is located in Glenisla near Blairgowrie in Perthshire.
The official venue evidence is useful because it confirms the castle connection without relying exclusively on celebrity reporting.
Gabriella Wesberry is private, but not invisible
Some biographies go too far in portraying Wesberry as someone who has never appeared publicly. There is photographic evidence to the contrary.
Getty Images records Wesberry and Hucknall attending the Goldene Kamera awards in Berlin on January 30, 2010. It also documents the couple attending the 28th birthday celebration of Bill Wyman’s Sticky Fingers restaurant in London on July 6, 2017.
Those appearances do not make Wesberry a public figure in the same sense as her husband. They simply show why absolute claims such as “she never attends public events” are inaccurate.
What is fair to say is that her documented public profile is comparatively limited. Most substantive information about her comes from reporting connected to Hucknall, their family and the businesses they were involved in rather than from a separate media career of her own.
What is reliably known — and what should not be guessed
Several biography pages attach an exact birth year, nationality, net worth and other personal details to Gabriella Wesberry. The stronger sources opened for this article do not establish enough of those facts to present them confidently.
For example, contemporary reports establish her professional background, relationship history, marriage, daughter and involvement with the wine business. They do not provide a sufficiently authoritative basis for stating an exact date of birth, present-day residence, current occupation, personal wealth or social-media status.
That distinction matters because Wesberry is a living person whose public profile largely arose through her relationship with a famous musician. The documented story is already clear without filling the gaps with assumptions: she had a professional life of her own, helped manage Hucknall’s wine interests, shared a relationship with him stretching back to the 1990s, and became part of the family life that Hucknall has repeatedly said reshaped his priorities.
